Veteran and novice departmental representatives alike can learn new things in the upcoming United Way training sessions, according to David Gonzales, the current campus campaign chair and director of the Physical Facilities Department of Facilities Management.
Offered in Corwin Pavilion on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 1:15 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 9:45 a.m., each session is designed to last less than two hours; the reps can choose the one best suited to their schedules.
This year's campus United Way campaign will start on Jan. 16, 2001, and end on Feb. 14. Each of the training sessions will update representatives on new programs in the community that are supported by UCSB donations.
Unless the donor specifies otherwise, United Way contributions gathered locally stay in the county. Past donations have aided the UCSB Child Care Program, I.V. Youth Projects, and Let Isla Vista Eat, among others.
Volunteers are also needed for the pledge card stuffing on Dec. 14-15. Contact Amy Brown (x7382) for details.
Department representatives are also eligible for end-of-the-campaign drawings for numerous prizes donated as incentives by local merchants and campus organizations. Last academic year's campaign established a new record for campus giving with more than $169,000 donated to Santa Barbara County United Way.
