Capt. Bill Bean has been appointed acting chief of the UCSB Police Department while Chief John MacPherson is on a medical leave of absence, announced Everett R. Kirkelie, associate vice chancellor, administrative services. Bean is expected to serve as chief until around January 15, 2001.
