New Career Faculty Continued
Due to limited space a few new ladder faculty were omitted from the Nov. 20 issue's listing. They were: Curtis Roads, assistant professor, Media Arts and Technology Program; Subhash Suri, professor, computer science; Elisa Tamarkin, acting assistant professor, English; Matthew Turk, associate professor, computer science; Giovanni Vigna, assistant professor, computer science; and Laura Wittman, acting assistant professor, French and Italian.

HONORS & AWARDS

France Cordova, vice chancellor for research, last month was honored as a 2000 Kilby Awards Laureate, one of 41 from around the world chosen for their "extraordinary contributions to society" by a foundation established by Nobel Laureate Jack Kilby, inventor of the computer chip.

William W. Murdoch, professor of ecology, evolution, and marine biology, has been awarded a highly coveted Miller Research Professorship from UC Berkeley where he will spend part of the next calendar year. He also was appointed to The Nature Conservancy's Board of Governors for a term of three years.

Sara Poot-Herrera, professor of Spanish, was recently presented with a prestigious literary medal from her home state of Yucatan, Mexico. The medal, given by Yucatan's governor, was for her research in and teaching of Mexican literature.

Joseph A. Zasadzinski, professor of chemical engineering, was recently named a Fellow of the American Academy for the Advancement of Science. He is the fifth AAAS Fellow chosen this year from UCSB faculty.

|
The American Psychological Association has awarded Counseling and Career Services' Professional Psychology Internship Program a full, five-year reaccreditation. Each year, three Ph.D.-level students in clinical or counseling psychology are selected from over 90 applicants in the United States and abroad to complete a 12-month internship at UCSB.

TRANSITIONS

Following a national search, Michael Andreasen, associate director of university development, has been chosen campaign director for UCSB's capital campaign. As director he will coordinate and support all phases of the effort, reporting to the highest levels of administration.

CLARIFICATION
|
The Sociology 159 class mentioned in the Nov. 20 story on unisex restrooms was taught that quarter by Jane Ward, a graduate student teaching associate under the supervision of Beth Schneider, professor and chair of sociology.
